The Computer will run and my bird will fly…

Glitch_Program_2013_nb-1

When i have been begining to develop my birds and creatures, i did not think about the physical aspects of my work. Maybe i was waiting to a small “push”. But i got this support soon, from a fantastic curator, Nora O’Murchú. She invited me to exhibit on the show called “Run Computer Run” which takes place in Dublin.

here is a small text about the idea behind my work:

Creatures Creatures were created two years ago from artifacts. Creatures with human or animal-like outfit, though they are nothing else but well structured artifacts.

Artifact The notion has multiple meanings. In my case it is interpreted as a technological and an archeological notion. All my artifacts are based on a collection of virtual errors. If these errors are rearranged, new forms are expected to be resulted, that could be considered as byproducts. The new forms are created by a human (by me), however, through a technological process. Due to their human or animal-like forms those humans who are watching them, are guided back to the real world. (This is the archeological aspect of the artifact.)

Technology My technology is based on code, nodes, virtual digital technology. Usually I experiment with controllable random forms, i.e. with random artifacts. The result of the virtual digital technology will be always a computer artifact (digitally printed or screened two dimensional surface). To step forward (toward the state of the archeological artifact), this dimension should be left behind.

Hello World This is the exit from the virtual world. There are many possible ways of becoming real: real can be experienced physically, measured in a real space with its dimension, surface, colour, shadow, reflection, odor, or touch. An automatized, “without human process” way (3D printer for example) could be used, too, but it doesn’t lead to an artifact in its archeological sense. What is need is to use my senses, hands and skills to form or shape the object (based on the computer’s artifact).

Object This is the final result, made of material (stuff), built by me, hanging there as a bird (hanging as the gravity effects it). The object is exposed to light, inducing shadows. It is there, it is real, it is transubstantiated into an archeological artifact. The form is completely figurative.

pxn is going to lithuania

3 08 2010

Iam invited to play a 3 hour long vj set at Satta Outside festival  in Šventoji, Lithuania. This year the thematic is glitch, so i will make a dedicated pxn set. I decided to use this time VDMX, so iam trying to involve all my pxn fragments, as effects and as generators. The other ‘thematically’ invited artist is Rosa Menkman.

here is a small preview directly from vdmx:

back to normal

23 02 2010

I just finished my installations for CinemaTotal 3 (pictures soon), and made couple of live visuals for the same event, and now back to ‘normal’.

Meantime Kim Asendorf published his awesome processing based software ONull.

Nice vector based picture ‘reanimation’. I hope one day will be able to make some basic animation thing, perhaps just an interpolation between the parameters. BTW amazing job, and great to have it as a freeware or shared creative stuff. The idea behind it, is brilliant.

I made some similar experiments with cubes, with less resolution but working as a vdmx plugin too (realtime).

Anyway next month i will make a QuartzComposer workshop in Mannheim (during the b-seite festival).

updatezz

20 10 2009

So the main project of this autumn just happened, lets say its over, so slowly iam back to the world of A/V. Its not true, i made an A/V live act during the balaton project with Thea Soti and her excellent jazz band. It has been recorded, and will be publish soon.

some of the setup photos are here:

IMG_0287

IMG_0296

Setup based on triplhead2go (thanks to Ilan), one big screen (huge) with an evil 10k Chritie beamer, and two smaller screens (thanks to Cypher). I used VDMX this time, because thats  fast enough to setup, and easy to crop,  and many more reasons. I used DV Pal size footage, and yes it was reliable.

Thea and the band played 5 songs, original hungarian Balaton based retro songs, and we made a small concept for every song.

In the meantime many things happened in the ‘small’ QC world, i dont want to write a short story, so the important ones for me:

1. sound in QC. A not well-covered, but very impressive topic. And Dust, made a very important step: DLSSynth AU Component. And yes its working. Why its so important? This is the first step, when a custom patch is using outside sound generator (this is the DLSSynth), and the next step could be that QC  integrate  AU components. Isadora Core Audio edition is doing the same, but not using  any virtual synths or others, only the AU effects .  Here is an example  for AU synth from Sam:

2. Quartz Builder 1.2 with parameter display, and multi sampling. Great work Kineme!

CC Statement

28 08 2009

CurlyCode
-statement.
After having presented my software at the event named Share.Berlin (thanks Tofa and Ilan for the possibility), and talking to a few people i decided to write the followings as a statement.
1. CurlyCode (CC) is a non commercial software. It is a media art project of mine.
2. CC is the realization of my way of thinking and visualizing. The let people to acces to it or use it is like a giving a piece from miself.
3. CC is a very complex 3D, realtime drawing application, with several drawing effects (some of them are audio reactive) , shaders, and postFX-s.
4. CC is BlackandWhite or greyscale now.
5. CC allows you to make a gestural expression of the influence the music made in you.
6. CC is the most direct relation with screen via tablet.
7. There are no complicated interfaces, just the keyboard and 8 knobs or faders or iphone.
8. CC engine is ready and will not be chaged until i goin’ deeper in Quartz Composer 4., but i will add some more effects and shader, to multiply the number of the combination.
9. CC is very similar to me. Curly and sometimes very chaothic.

signalinging

8 08 2009

After watching and reading Udart’s tutorial how not to spend money for a super-expansive mixer, i gave a try. First bought a fire wire 800 cable and after i tested. Spending up to six minutes with the setup, i was able to send 3L signal to quatz composer, and i was happy. why 3L?  because it has a built-in DV ouput, so the final ouput (or the separated objects) could be sent via firewire.

Picture 41

The latency is latency but not so decent. And yes, its fitting into my new vj set concept, i can use another computer output as an input, probably the only input and everything else is just effects. 3L-s shapes and forms are good examples, the sound reactivity is easy and effective, need some practice, but working well.

new name new logo

well, its time to change: mr.monkeypresso is the past, and pixel noizz is the present. It was a long time ago when we started the vj group called monkeypresso, and after just the solo mr.monkeypresso. It was all about  VJ-ing, but my interest slowly transformed forward to a more expanded field of ‘live visualism’. This summer (2009) i presented the ‘serpendity’ performance in rome at LPM. And after everything has just simply changed in me. Something like that.
