how to generate corruption

yesterday i was working with the glitch stuff and i got an idea. Long time ago, when everything just started to be, some early computer musicians made glitchy effects just simply manipulatong the sound loop as a file, they opened in different text editors and changed characters or whatever.
what is if this receipt working with images as well?

with the great kineme file tools, i was able to open files as a string, and manipulate couple of characters, and then save them.

i tried with ‘mov’ files as well but nothing happend, but the compressed ‘tif’ files are reacting more better to the characters hacking:
